This literary love story is one of the surprising tales connected with Broadstairs - and it began with a young writer falling for his former professor's wife.
In 1912, D. H. Lawrence visited Ernest Weekley, who had once taught him at Nottingham University. There Lawrence met Weekley's wife, Frieda.
Lawrence was 27. Frieda was 33, married and the mother of three children.
They fell passionately in love.
Frieda left her husband and the relationship caused scandal. In 1913, Lawrence and Frieda stayed in Broadstairs at Riley House on Percy Avenue, during a period when their unconventional relationship was already attracting attention.
The couple went on to marry in July 1914, just weeks before the outbreak of the First World War. Their marriage could be tempestuous, but Frieda remained a huge presence in Lawrence's life and work.
And Broadstairs had played host to part of the romance of the man who would later become famous - and controversial - as the author of Lady Chatterley's Lover.
